The All-Ireland Business Summit had the privilege last year (2016) to witness Elaine Lavery, Co-founder of Improper Butter, speaking in the summit. Elaine pictured on the right above, joined the panel discussion on the theme of internationalising growing your business, and narrated her experience developing Improper Butter.
Improper Butter’s Story So Far
Improper Butter is a family member of ‘Udderly Delicious’, premium-brand Irish flavoured butters that combine grass-fed Irish creamery butter with fresh herbs and ingredients. Improper Butter is for sizzling, slathering, spreading and stirring over meat, fish, potatoes, pasta and bread. Improper Butter offers a pop of flavour to any meal instantly.
The Company, Improper Food Limited, was founded by best friends, and UCD graduates Elaine Lavery and Hannah O’Reilly. Elaine was always interested in food and it was while taking a post-university gap year in the French Alps, cooking as a chalet chef, that she developed the idea for Improper Butter. Upon her return in the spring of 2013 she approached Hannah who had a love for branding and marketing and asked her to join together to promote the product.
Improper Butter was launched into Irish multiples in September 2015. With sales in Ireland performing well, Improper Butter is now being pitched to international buyers in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the USA, with some detailed negotiations currently under way.
